01/09/2005: "French Press"
OK, folks. Here I am the supposed coffee guru who spent all this time making a web site about it and I can't even make a decent cup when I use a french press. What gives. I preheat the glass container with some boiling water; I empty the cooled water and add my freshly ground coarse coffee; I pour a bit of the just-off-the-boil water in and stir with a wooden spoon; I pour in the rest of the hot water and allow the thing to steep with the cover on, wrapped in a towel for five or six minutes. I pour and ... don't enjoy. It's weak and flavorless! I added sugar so I could keep drinking it today because I needed the caffeine I knew was in there. But I can't identify the problem precisely. I think the next time I try it I'll let it steep a bit longer before pouring. Maybe it needs something like eight or nine minutes. Has anyone else had this problem? Let me know.
