I have a coffee habit. I drink it every day. Day in and day out, nothing but coffee to drink. Coffee, coffee, coffee. I think I'll go make a cup right now. Will you have some?
Hi Aaron, Your coffee pages are great. Actually, you can find low price espresso machines in Europe. We bought a De Longhi (Italy) machine which can produce 15 bars pressure for about £40 ($60) in the UK. You can check the EBAY-UK site for such a machine. I'm sure that you'll be able to find one in the US too. An important suggestion about your pages which I should give is the lack of information on how coffee is brought over to Europe by the Ottomans (first to Vienna, Austria during the famous siege of Ottomans by chance and then to Italy, then to wherever it is currently being sipped :)). Related to this, is the very famous but equally unknown Turkish coffee. You can find more on this in Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi website. The way how I found your fabulous webpage is by Googling the keywords (roasting "supermarket coffee" beans). The reason why I searched this may not be apparent at first. I'm trying to re-roast already (medium) roasted coffee to make it full-roast and taste better. Do you have any ideas? All the best to the other side of the ocean. PS: You can check an early article written by me on coffee.
Thanks so much for the tip regarding the chapters missing from my little history of coffee. I will do my best to complete it. It's always nice to get positive feedback.
As far as roasting already roasted beans. Hmmm. I really don't know because I have so little experience roasting coffee. My feeling though is that once cooled, the beans should probably not be re-roasted. If you poke around a bit I'm sure you'll find a source of fresh green coffee beans. They're available from myriad web pages and I imagine even a local coffee shop might be willing to sell the unroasted beans. Good luck and keep drinking coffee.
